About Lee

ARTIST STATEMENT
As a contemporary glass maker and designer, Lee Forrester’s creative practice is motivated by a process led investigation into the material. Lee employs a variety of techniques when translating his ideas into glass, including: glassblowing; kiln fusing, forming, casting and cold working. Particularly with glassblowing, the changing states of the material during making often represent a metaphor for the themes Lee explores.
Visually Lee’s work looks at naturally occurring phenomenon and the spectacle they create for inspiration; informed by questioning the scientific forces that create them. In his current line of inquiry, Lee is exploring the life of a star, focussing on visuals of Nebula and the Torus form of a Black-hole.
Throughout, Lee capitalises on the material’s transparent and refractive optical qualities, by making interaction with light an integral element of his objects; which through shadow engage in conversation with their surroundings.
Clean lines, thick walls, depth and the sensitive application of colour or texture, incorporate a flavour of Danish glass design within Lee's clean and simple style. It is his intention as a designer to combine the awe inspiring visuals we witness throughout nature, with the mystery of glass making, to produce objects that mesmerise their viewers.
